BMX Track is opening 14th December 2013

BMX kids in Silloth are over the moon that their new Track is opening on Saturday 14th December. The youngsters have been involved in the development of the track from the beginning, having approached Silloth Town Council with their ideas and support for the build, which was funded by Heritage Lottery and project managed by Cumbria County Council.

The opening ceremony will begin at 10.00am with speeches and comments from Silloth Town Council Mayor Tony Markley and Deputy Mayor Stuart Graham.  Cllr Markley said: Silloth Town Council have been extremely proud and happy to work with the youngsters in developing the track and are delighted to see such a wonderful result.” Cllr Graham has been instrumental in supporting the youngsters and their efforts and is extremely pleased with the results, which have been well regarded and deemed safe by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). Demonstrating delight that the track has been completed to such a high standard, Cllr Graham said: “Everyone is welcome to come along and celebrate this important milestone for the determined young people of Silloth who have poured so much effort into the project.”

Excited youngsters will take centre stage at the opening ceremony and some of the stalwarts in the BMX Club will cut the ribbon to their new track before riding on to test it out.

Helping the youngsters celebrate and enjoy the day ‘The Clan,’ a well known BMX stunt Team, will perform and give hints and tips to enthusiastic youngsters. A climbing wall and refreshments will also be available.

BMX stands for bicycle motocross (X). It’s a family-centred sport with parents encouraging their kids to get involved in fresh air and exercise. If your child is starting to jump off kerbs, pretending to be riding a motorbike or is making their own jumps out of dirt, it might be time to bring them along to the new Silloth Green BMX Track. All that’s needed is a safe roadworthy bike and a helmet.
